Privacy policy

Who we are

Ange (also called HelloAnge) is run by Kora Limited, company number [to be confirmed], registered at [to be confirmed]. We are the controller of the personal information described here. Contact us about privacy at [to be confirmed].

What we collect

We don’t ask for your nationality, and we never use it to decide what you need. Please don’t share health details, ID numbers or other people’s personal information in chat.

Our legal basis

  • Providing the service you signed up for (contract): your account, chats, plan, notes and credit.
  • Legitimate interests: keeping Ange secure, preventing abuse, and improving it. That includes counting what kinds of questions are asked and whether the answers worked, and using copies of your questions to improve and train Ange. You can object at any time by switching off “Help improve Ange with my questions” in your account settings, and we’ll stop.
  • Consent: your device location, which Ange only uses while you switch Live location on. Switch it off in the chat, or withdraw permission in your browser, at any time.
  • Legal obligation: keeping payment records.

How we use your questions to improve Ange

When you ask Ange something, we keep a separate copy of the question to learn what newcomers need and where Ange falls short. Before it’s stored, we remove email addresses, phone numbers, postcodes, ID numbers and names you introduce yourself with. The copy isn’t stored with your name, email or account.

A small number of trained staff read these copies. They remove anything that could still identify someone, and any health details, before a question is approved, or they discard it. Only approved questions are used to write new guidance, test Ange’s answers and train Ange’s models. Ange’s answers, and the notes you save, are not used.

We only start keeping copies after we’ve told you about this in the app. You can switch it off at any time under your account settings: we stop keeping new copies and delete those still linked to your chats. Deleting a chat or your account does the same.

Please don’t include other people’s details, or your own health details, in questions.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers who process information only on our instructions:

  • Supabase: our database and sign-in service.
  • OpenAI: writes answers from the reviewed information we give it. We send your question, recent messages in that chat, the notes you’ve enabled and the relevant local information, and we ask OpenAI not to store it.
  • Google Maps Platform: maps, place search and routes, only when you use directions or the map. Google receives the places you search for and, if you allow it, your starting location.
  • Google Cloud: hosts the app in the UK.
  • PostHog: product analytics, hosted in the EU. It receives the usage events described above, without cookies. It never receives your messages, name or email.
  • Stripe: processes card payments when top-ups are available. We never see or store your card number.

Some of these providers are based in, or send data to, the United States. Where they do, the transfer is covered by UK-approved safeguards such as the International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. We don’t sell personal information to anyone.

Answers written by AI

Ange uses AI to write answers from reviewed local information and patterns in experiences newcomers have shared. We don’t make decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects by automated means. Answers can be wrong or out of date, so check important details with the organisation concerned.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or move your information, and you can object to how we use it. You can delete a chat or your whole account yourself in the app, under your account settings. For anything else, contact us at [to be confirmed] and we’ll reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Security

Traffic is encrypted, sign-in cookies can’t be read by scripts, each person can only reach their own information, and our admin tools show accounts and totals, not your conversations. Staff who review questions see the copies described above, not who asked them. Only a small number of named administrators can access the database directly, and only to run and fix the service.

Age

Ange is for adults aged 18 and over.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
